When going to the salon ends in tragedy…

Have you ever gone to the salon because maybe you have been having a rough go of things in your life, or maybe because you just need a new look to help boost your confidence? How about getting a new do for that amazing job you just got. Well, I turn 35 today! Yayy! But aside from that my husband decided that the best gift was something I had been telling him I wanted and needed for a while, a day getting my hair done and being pampered. Well that’s not exactly what I got, sadly.

Yesterday I went to see a colorist I found on Facebook Marketplace, Traci at her booth at L.A. Hair Salon in Leland NC. I had previously made an appointment to see her at 2PM on August 2nd. I messaged her in advance and asker her if she had something earlier as she had told me I was her only appointment that day. She accommodated and got me down for 11AM for the same day. I showed up at the salon (extremely excited as I have not had my hair done professionally in almost 10 years) at 10:30AM, so I could make sure to be there a bit early if she wanted to get started. I was told to have a seat and she would be right with me, (as she was double booked and already working on someone else’s hair) so I waited patiently. Between 12PM and 12:30 PM I was finally seated.

I let her know that I had to be gone by 2:30 to pick my husband up from work, and was told it would take less than 2 hours to get my hair done. I then showed her a few pictures of what I wanted and explained that I wanted highlights, but eventually an all over blonde which I was well aware that I would need 4-5 highlight sessions to get the desired look I was trying to achieve. No problem. In our messages she said pricing for highlights was $79 and up. Still fine, as I knew it could possibly be up to $120 as I have been quoted this price from other salons. So she proceeds to do my foils. This takes her about 45-50 minutes total. She then puts me under the dryer and leaves me for about 15 minutes, and then she worked on the other girls hair. No problem. She comes back and then rinses my hair, puts the toner in it and leaves that for about 10 minutes while she continues to work on her other clients hair. Still cool at this point. She comes back and rinses the toner, washes my hair and then sprays something oily yet sticky in my hair puts a towel around it, and then puts me under the dryer. She goes back to her other client and proceeds to dry and style her hair, have a conversation with her, and take pictures to put on her page.

I sat under the dryer for almost an hour waiting and finally told her that I needed to be out of there in 30 minutes to pick my husband up from work (by 2:30PM). She walked back over to the chair and continued to do the other clients hair and by now I am getting irritated as I was not given the attention as a paying customer that I knew she would need to give me to get a proper result. Finally at 2:25PM she has me come over, tells me to sit down, is rude in the way she is talking to me as if her double booking clients was not the issue, but I was the issue, and proceeds to SNATCH the knots from my hair. She doesn’t attempt to dry it, style it, anything. She then told me I owed her $165 for an all-over blonde,

1) it was highlights, not an all-over blonde, and

2) that price was well over double what we had discussed prior.

I was told before leaving that she didn’t care what I did with my hair. So I left with it in a ball on top of my head, soaking wet. I got home only to realize that she completely ruined my hair in the way that I can only style it one way, and cannot wear it up as it looks absolutely horrible.

I messaged her and asked her if she could fix it only to be told that it was my fault again that it looks this way and that I wasn’t getting a refund or my hair fixed. I then posted a video and written review, only to be messaged by her husband a short time later and threatened and called a liar. Sadly, my birthday gift from my husband (my hair being done) was one of the worst experiences I have ever had from a salon. I cried for a long time and finally decided I will have someone else attempt to fix this wretched mess on my head now.  I don’t recommend any locals, or anyone at all for that matter, use this salon at all, simply because of the way I was treated and her lack of professionalism and unwillingness to try and remedy the issue. To make it clear, she was given every opportunity to correct the issue by any means, be it refund or fixing it, but she offered nothing in the way of a solution. I also called the owner of the actual salon only to be told that what happened wasn’t her problem, it had nothing to do with her nor her business. But she said that as long as those booth rental checks clear, she doesn’t care. This is even worse than the experience with the colorist, Traci. Owners, you would think, wouldn’t want that kind of a person representing their business.

It’s kind of depressing when a woman can’t go and enjoy such a treat and the end result is as bad as what I ended up with. For the record, I expected great things and to have a long term client/colorist relationship as we were even Facebook friend prior to our appointment. Now, she has blocked me, the salon made it where I could no longer review them, and I am blown away by the lack of courtesy, professionalism, and overall people skills displayed by both the worker and the company as a whole.

Also, here is a video I made a few minutes after our conversation about it being fixed.
